Here Soon: A Vintage-Inspired Font for Editorial Design

Sitting at my desk, I was tasked with redesigning the header of a lifestyle blog that had grown in popularity but lacked a cohesive visual identity. The challenge was clear: find a font that could embody the warmth and nostalgia of the content while remaining modern enough to appeal to a broad audience. That’s when I discovered Here Soon—a retro and attractive brush font with a unique, hand-drawn feel.

Here Soon immediately stood out with its delicate yet bold strokes, reminiscent of ink spilled on parchment or a calligrapher's practiced hand. It felt like the perfect bridge between the past and present, offering a vintage charm without sacrificing readability or versatility. As I tested it across different layouts, I realized how well it complemented various editorial formats—from blog headers to printable guides.

Visual Character and Personality

The character of Here Soon is unmistakable. Its hand-drawn feel gives it an organic rhythm, making it ideal for projects that seek to evoke emotion or storytelling. Each letter carries a subtle variation in weight, which adds depth and personality to any text it touches. This makes it particularly effective for titles, pull quotes, and chapter openers where visual impact matters most.

I found it especially useful for a recipe ebook I was designing. The title page needed something that would catch attention without overwhelming the reader. Here Soon provided that balance—its boldness made the title stand out, while its delicate flourishes added a touch of elegance.

Editorial Appeal and Use Cases

In editorial design, the right font can transform a layout from functional to unforgettable. Here Soon has proven itself in several key areas:

For a wedding guide I worked on, I used Here Soon for the cover and section headings. It gave the publication a romantic, timeless quality that resonated with the target audience. When paired with a clean sans serif font for body copy, the contrast helped maintain readability while enhancing the overall design.

Readability and Practical Considerations

While Here Soon is a display font, its legibility is surprisingly strong, even in smaller sizes. This makes it suitable for use in both digital and print formats. For screen reading, I noticed it performed well on mobile devices, though I always recommend testing it across different platforms before finalizing a design.

When exporting to PDF or using it in print materials, I ensured that the font was embedded correctly and that all necessary styles were included. Checking for multilingual support and commercial licensing was also essential, especially since the project involved distributing downloadable content.

Font Pairing and Design Harmony

One of the joys of working with Here Soon is how well it pairs with other fonts. For a coaching workbook I designed, I combined it with a classic serif font for body text. The contrast between the handwritten feel of Here Soon and the structured elegance of the serif font created a visually pleasing hierarchy that guided the reader effortlessly through the content.

For captions and navigation menus, a clean sans serif font worked best, ensuring that the more decorative elements didn’t distract from the core message. This careful pairing not only elevated the design but also reinforced the brand identity of the publication.

Whether you're working on a digital magazine, a newsletter, or a course PDF, Here Soon offers a versatile solution that can adapt to your needs while maintaining a consistent mood and aesthetic.
